The following are five questions that can serve as a quick OSHA compliance evaluation. They emphasize a commonly-violated standard
General Industry
- Has our company submitted OSHA 300 A form information electronically to OSHA?
- Can employees explain how to access a Safety Data Sheet when working at our facility?
- Can those who wear dust masks under a voluntary program explain the limitations of that type of respirator?
- Can workers self-identify as being authorized to perform lockout/tagout functions?
- Do workers know how to respond properly to a fire in the workplace?
Construction
- Has our company submitted OSHA 300 A form information electronically to OSHA?
- Can employees explain how to access a Safety Data Sheet when working at our facility?
- Can workers explain when a fall protection harness should be removed from service?
- Can workers who operate mobile elevated work platforms explain how the basket should be lowered if the top controls stop working?
- Can a worker explain how to set up a straight ladder properly?
How did you do?
If you answered yes to all five, great work! One or two no answers may just require renewed emphasis with those particular OSHA standard as well as th need for an overall program audit. Three or more no answers likely means some significant improvements need to be made in order to comply with OSHA standards.
